ADVANCE
CONNECTING
AUSTRALIANS
GLOBALLY

In the afterglow of the 2021 Advance Awards, the incredible success of the various satellite events hosted around the world showed the power of connecting our global community around a common goal. Celebrating the achievements of the Award finalists, while catching up with the local Aussie network, was made possible by the hard work (and patience!) of the wonderful partners in each of the five locations.

Planning events to coincide with the fixed start time required creativity (a 10:30am event start in London; 1:30pm in Dubai, and 5:30pm in Hong Kong and Shanghai!) as did rallying guests to watch a 80min video celebration. We capture the energy and enthusiasm of each of the satellite events, including the delayed telecast held a few hours later in New York.

Thank you to all of our hosts, partners and attendees for allowing these truly special events to happen, and to unite our community of overseas Australians.

The satellite events for this year included:

Dubai: Led by our Advance Ambassador, Adam Malouf, and Lisa Meli, GM of the Australian Business Council Dubai, with the support of locally-based organisations, including ANZ and Tourism Australia, members gathered for a late lunch viewing and get-together.

An amazing event, even better than last year! The attendees in Dubai loved it, and most people kicked on afterwards (even though it was still the middle of the day for us!). Advance team – well done for putting everything together.’ ~ Adam Malouf

Kindly hosted at The Pangolin, Dubai

Hong Kong: Led by AustCham Hong Kong’s Chief Executive, Stefanie Evennett, the Australian Consul-General in Hong Kong, Mrs Elizabeth Ward, hosted members of the local community and locally-based Award finalists.

We had a great night here in Hong Kong. The first in person networking of that size that the Chamber has had for over a year so it was a great opportunity to bring everyone together.’ ~ Stefanie Evennett

Kindly hosted at the official residence of the Australian Consulate-General, Hong Kong

London: Led by our Advance Ambassador in London, Jeannie Lopes, guests included the High Commissioner, the Hon. George Brandis QC, State trade commissioners, local finalists, and community members.

‘Well done the team in Sydney! In London, we found it difficult to mix chatting and mingling with watching so we ended up concentrating on watching it all… It was a great chance for a top slice of the Australian community in London to understand what Advance is really about and I have had lots of feedback with people wanting to nominate and to link their organisations with Advance.’ ~ Jeannie Lopes

Kindly hosted by Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL), London

Shanghai: Led by Advance Board member, the Chair of the Advance Asia Advisory Committee, and former Award winner, Michelle Garnaut AO, with the support of locally-based organisations, including AustCham Shanghai, the Australian Consulate-General, ANZ, Global Victoria, MinterEllison, Monash University, Tourism Australia, University of Sydney and Wagas.

Just a quick note to say many thanks to you and the M team for putting together such a fantastic event last night.  The streaming aspect went really well and it was great to have a few speeches too.’ ~ Michael McGregor

Kindly hosted by GLAM, Shanghai

New York: Led by Marie Scoutas, Public Diplomacy and Communications, and attended by the Australian Consul-General, the Hon. Nick Greiner AC, the delayed telecast attracted Award finalists and winners from 2021 and previous years.

What an amazing event you pulled off during a pandemic. I watched the livestream this morning and then attended the NYC event and was blown away. After these painful few isolated years it felt normal again for a few special hours. What a big, beautiful and powerful Australian family you are nurturing. I am so proud to be part of it and look forward to working with you to do this extraordinary honor justice.’ ~ Leith Greenslade

Kindly hosted at the Australian Consulate-General, New York
